The skidsの"The Saints Are Coming"です。映画"The Boondock Saints 2"「処刑人2」のエンディングテーマです。聴いた事があるとしたら、U2とグリーンデイのカバーした方を聴いた人が多いのではないでしょうか。僕はSkidsのJohn Peel Sessionが1番かっこいいと思います。
割と短い歌詞なのですが、ハチャメチャなこと言ってるんでかなりめんどくさかったです。Stairway to heavenもかなり意味わからない歌詞だと思うんですが、これもなんか神話的なこと言ってるのかわからないっすけどメチャメチャです。
特に難しいと感じたのが、「A drowning sorrow floods the deepest grief,」「溢れるほどの悲哀が深い悲しみを満たす。」と訳した文です。
sorrowもgriefも「悲しみ」みたいな感じの意味を持つ単語なので、訳す時にどうすればいいか戸惑いました。和訳する際、困った時は主語や動詞などに分けて考える事を癖にしてるのですが、どうしてもこれだけは正しいと思える訳し方が浮かびませんでした。結果、英語がちゃんとできる人はなんやこのクソって思うはずです。
結構頑張って訳したのですが、かなり今回は難しかったので恐らくこの歌詞の意味はちゃんと汲み取れてないと思います。正しく訳せたかどうかも不確かなので、赤ペン先生がいらっしゃいましたら是非僕に指導をしてくださると幸いです。
